with India and the European Union (EU) whereby the three could trade high
technology and dual-use technology. According to sources, Russia has told
India it is also open to forming joint ventures (JVs) in military
applications with EU joining in. Sources said India was expecting more than 300 JVs with small and
medium European businesses, but it was mainly interested in high technology,
while Russia believed it could advance its entrepreneurship in partnership
with India and EU. India signs trade pact with Asean Vientiane: In a significant move to strengthen economic
ties, India and 10 Asean nations on 30th

India to grow at 8% for 10 years: FM The Indian economy is poised for sustained economic
growth of 7-8 per cent for the next ten years, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram
told participants in a keynote address at the opening session of the World
Economic Forum's 20th India Economic Summit. Chidambaram also announced the creation of a
three-person commission of business figures to spearhead efforts to engage the
business sector and promote investment in India. Chidambaram said that
India's sustained growth has been made possible because of the emergence of a
'broad consensus on fiscal discipline and prudence' and an acceptance that
trade is beneficial, even if the country should register a large trade
deficit. He underscored the government's commitment to its goal of attracting
$150 billion in new investment over the next decade. Earlier, Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive
Chairman, World Economic Forum, observed that India has progressed
significantly in the two decades since the first India Economic Summit. |

clearly upbeat on prospects in Africa. Domestic companies, including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kirloskar, Candico, Dr Reddy's and Dabur,
are among those headed in droves to capitalise on
the business opportunities in the nascent African market and also tap it as a
cheap manufacturing base. The auto
sector is clearly leading the charge, with Mahindra
& Mahindra and Tata
Motors inking joint ventures with African companies to enter the market. 24th India International Trade Fair New Delhi, Nov 27: The India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO)
organized the 24th India International Trade Fair (IITF) from
November 14-27, 2004. The Fair, one of the largest in Asia, drew to a close
on Nov. 27 with hundreds of thousands pouring in on the last day and many
foreign participants promising to return next year. The fair highlighted both
the traditional and modern strengths of India with the focus on agriculture
and IT. Over 320 foreign companies from 28 countries including China
participated in the fortnight-long fair that saw a larger number of
international buyers arriving to sample goods on display and strike deals.
Among countries that did brisk business at the fair were Pakistan, Iran,
Turkey, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. Some African countries used
the opportunity to promote business even as they sought to lure tourists to
sample their rich cultural heritage and handicrafts. Many countries had
state-owned trade promotion bodies participating at the trade fair, including
the one from Nepal, to encourage bilateral investment and trade. In
accordance with the request of some of the delegates and buyers, ITPO even organised special one-to-one interactions at the trade
fair. |
